Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte will almost certainly leave the club this summer.

Laporte played a key role at the Etihad Stadium last season, as City won a historic treble and first Champions League title. He also contributed to the success of the team over the years.

But not being guaranteed a place is the point that makes the 29-year-old player the biggest disappointment, because he wants to play stably at club level, to keep the starting place for Spain at EURO 2024.

Barcelona were initially linked with a move for the centre-back but the arrival of Inigo Martinez has cast their interest away, with City’s Premier League rivals Crystal Palace also keeping an eye on him.

According to a report from the Manchester Evening News, the story will come to an end in the next few weeks, as Josko Gvardiol prepares to join Man City.

If Gvardiol completes his expected move from RB Leipzig, Laporte will officially be allowed to look for a transfer of his own, as he will slide further down the selection order in the Manchester City defence.
