This is the biggest saw in the world, and it can cut through MOUNTAINS

Frodo’s journey to Mordor in Lord of the Rings would have been much easier if he had one of these things.

This massive piece of machinery is officially the world’s biggest saw, and can cut through pretty much anything, even mountains.

The monstrous mining tool weighs 45,000 tonnes and requires 27 miners to operate it in the Bogatyr Mine in Kazakhstan – which itself is one of the biggest coal mines in the world.

At 12 meters high, the giant saw which is used to destroy coal mountains is the size of a four storey building.

Russian photographer Alexander Popov managed to get some pictures of the machine whilst documenting Kazakhstan’s mining industry.

He said: ‘I have never seen a machine as big as this one although I have seen many powerful machines in the past.’

Just one of these beasts costs £66 million to produce, however it can mine 4,500 tonnes of coal in an hour – something that would have taken a whole team of miners many weeks to achieve before the mechanisation of the mining industry.
