Screen Rant is thrilled to present an exclusive clip from writer/director Sophie Barthes’ new sci-fi movie The Pod Generation. Barthes’ third feature film is set in a world where technology has overtaken nature and AI is everywhere. A couple in New York, Rachel and Alvy, want to start a family, and as an executive at a tech company, she is given a rare opportunity. Rachel gets a spot at the Womb Center, which gives couples the chance to experience pregnancy together as equals.

This is possible through the use of an artificial womb, aka pods, but Alvy, a botanist and nature purist, is hesitant. However, his love for Rachel wins out, and he agrees. This sets in motion a strange path to parenthood that is populated by technology at every turn. The Pod Generation premiered at Sundance earlier this year but will have a wider release in theaters beginning August 11.

    More About The Pod Generation

    The Pod Generation movie

In Screen Rant’s exclusive clip from The Pod Generation, Rachel, played by Emilia Clarke, calls in Alvy, played by Chiwetel Ejiofor, to take a look at the nursery. Although Alvy doesn’t seem as enthusiastic as Rachel would like, only commenting on the color. An AI system that appears similar to Siri or Alexa tells her that it looks nice. Alvy then brings his own touch to the room, a small sprig of an olive tree from his greenhouse.

Rachel is not excited about this piece of nature in the house, suggesting a hologram version, but Alvy is insistent. This clip instantly demonstrates some of the differences in the couple, with Rachel preferring the clean and almost sterile world offered by technology and Alvy feeling more connected to nature. This will likely bleed into every aspect of their lives, especially as they build their family with technology at its center. The Pod Generation personifies the battle between technology and nature which is not only a common conflict in science fiction but is becoming more and more relevant today.

The Pod Generation is written and directed by Sophie Barthes. The Pod Generation stars Emilia Clarke, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Rosalie Craig, Vinette Robinson, and Jean-Marc Barr. The Pod Generation is rated PG-13 and has a run time of 109 minutes.
