Last month, Mendy moved to Lorient on a two-year contract, just five days after being acquitted. Previously, the 29-year-old defender had expired his contract with Man City and became a free agent.

In 2017, Mendy became the most expensive defender in history at that time when he was bought by Man City for £ 52 million. He was once described by technical director Txiki Begiristain as “one of the best defenders in the world”.

However, since Mendy’s arrest, Man City has suspended Mendy and has not paid him a salary.

According to L’Equipe, Mendy, along with his agent and lawyer, are working with his former club to claim compensation. Mendy’s goal is to claim all or part of the salary that Man City has not paid him from August 2021 until the end of his contract.

It’s claimed that negotiations with the club have already begun as both parties are looking at ways how the player will recover over £9m-£10m in back pay.

Speaking of achievements, Mendy played 75 matches in all competitions, winning 6 trophies, including 3 Premier League titles, 2 League Cups and 1 Super Cup. On average, Mendy wins a trophy every 12 appearances for Man City.

Meanwhile, Mendy is not expected to feature in Lorient’s Ligue 1 opening game away at PSG on Saturday as he continues his fitness recovery process.
