Hugh Jackman is now one ‘O’ away from an EGOT

Hugh Jackman is just one “O” away from being one of the greatest showmen.

The actor inched one step closer to being a part of the rarefied EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony winners) crowd when he took home a Grammy on Sunday night.

Jackman earned his Grammy for Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media along with the rest of The Greatest Showman team including songwriters Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. The award was originated as the best soundtrack album category in 2000.

It’s just the latest accolade for The Greatest Showman score, which musicalized the life of P.T. Barnum and his creation of the circus. The film’s song “This Is Me” was nominated for an Academy Award for best song in 2018, and it won the Golden Globe in the same category.

Jackman celebrated the win on Twitter, posting a clip of the announcement with the caption, “And the @RecordingAcad goes to … @GreatestShowman @AtlanticRecords @pasekandpaul and the entire cast and crew! #Grammy.”

While Jackman celebrated the win as a victory for the entire The Greatest Showman team, it’s a major milestone for the actor. He already holds an Emmy award and a Tony award, meaning all he requires now to become an EGOT (of which there are only currently 15 competitive qualifiers) is an Oscar.

Jackman took home an Emmy in 2005 for Outstanding Individual Performance in a Variety or Music Program for his gig hosting the 58th annual Tony Awards in a nice moment of EGOT crossover between awards shows. His Tony came only the year before in 2004 for his portrayal of singer-songwriter Peter Allen in The Boy from Oz.

He has been nominated for an Oscar once — in 2013 for best actor for his work in Les Miserables. Many thought Jackman might earn a nomination this year for his portrayal of politician Gary Hart in Jason Reitman’s The Frontrunner, but the film did not gain much traction come awards season.
